Three panchayats along the mining belt – Mayem, Pilgao and Mulgao, along with the Bicholim municipal council (BMC) on Saturday extended their support to the agitating workers of Sesa Mining Corporation Limited (SMCL).
On Thursday, SMCL suspended mining operations at its Bicholim mines, after around 400 workers affiliated to the Sesa Goa Mining Corporation Employees Union protested against the company for not recognizing their leader Ajeetsingh Rane and for suspending workers.
The company warned the protesting workers not to indulge in any violence and illegal activities, failing which criminal action would be initiated against those involved in such acts.
The sarpanchas and panch members of the three panchayats, and later, BMC councilors met the agitating workers.
