Minister for Forest and Environment Alina Saldanha has directed BSNL authorities to stop road digging for laying underground cables in Cortalim. The Minister, upon finding some workers engaged in laying underground cables by digging a recently asphalted road near Queeny Nagar-Upasnagar junction, called BSNL officials at her party office in Cansaulim and directed to stop the work with immediate effect.
Alina asked the BSNL officials to give in writing about the work carried out by them and that they would repair the damaged portion of the road.
Highlighting that accidents were occurring due to bad conditions of roads, she said that coordination between state government authorities and central government agencies can help in avoiding a lot of mishaps.
The Minister directed the BSNL authorities to take permission of the state government authorities and also inform local representatives, not only in Cortalim, but in all parts of the state before taking up any work.
Meanwhile, Alina disclosed that the theme for this year’s World Environment Day, observed on June 5, was ‘Small Island and Climate Change’ which aimed at drawing the world’s attention to the phenomenon of climate change and the huge adverse impact it will have on the world in general and on small islands in particular.
