The controversy-ridden Goa Dairy has got a new chairman, finally. Balli sarpanch Rajesh Phaldessai was elected as new chairman of the dairy on Tuesday.
Phaldessai is a first-time director on the dairy board. He was elected unopposed in the presence of the elected members at a meeting convened by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies at the dairy premises.
Speaking after being elected as the Goa Dairy chairman, Phaldessai told media persons at Curti that that he will work for the welfare of farmers, promising to resolve all the issues plaguing the dairy.
He refrained from commenting on the controversies surrounding the dairy.
Sonu Gaunekar from the office of Registrar of Cooperative Societies was the presiding officer for the election.
Another RCS’ officer Pankaj Marathe and Goa Dairy’s managing director Dr Navso Sawant were also present at the meeting that conducted the election of Phaldessai.
A no-confidence motion against former chairman of Goa Dairy Madhav Sahakari had been adopted on April 26, in which eight of the 11 board of directors had voted against Sahakari.
The alleged failure of Sahakari to take the board of directors into confidence while taking decisions as regards the dairy was said to be reason for moving the no-trust motion against the former chairman.
