Bicholim Bachao Abhiyaan (BBA) has demanded the resignation of Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar for reportedly accusing Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal during the inaugural function of Bicholim Primary Health Centre (PHC).
The BBA members have also threatened to go on indefinite hunger strike if health services at the new Bicholim PHC are not upgraded as early as possible to provide better health facilities to people from Bicholim, Mayem, Sanquelim and surrounding areas.
The BBA members held its special meeting at the office of Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal on Saturday. The meeting was addressed by BBA Spokesperson Naresh Kadkade in the presence of BMC Councillor Shashikant Naik Halarnkar, BBA members Prasad Naik, Nishant Chanekar, former BMC councillor Bhagwan Harmalkar and others.
“The new and full-fledged building for PHC Bicholim was the outcome of concerted efforts of Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal prior to being elected as MLA, through the assistance from the then health minister Vishwajeet Rane,” claimed Kadkade.
“The statement made by the health minister against Sawal is the clear-cut insult of the Bicholim MLA and BBA demands resignation of the health minister for this act,” stated Kadkade.
It may be recalled that the inaugural function of the PHC at Bicholim on Thursday virtually turned into a gram sabha, with noisy interventions during speeches and politicians lashing out at each other at the function.
