The district collector South Dr Sachin Shinde has directed the Mormugao civic body and three panchayat bodies which are coming within the radius of Dabolim international airport to formulate an action plan by adopting various measures over collection and dumping of garbage in order to avoid bird hits which is on the rise for the last several years.

The meeting was held at the old terminal building of Dabolim airport and was attended by deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate Mormugao Sabaji Shetye, airport director K Srinivasa Rao, MMC chief officer Melvyn Vaz, officials of the Indian Navy, deputy director of panchayat, Mormugao BDO, representatives of the three panchayat bodies namely Chicalim, Chicolna Bogmalo and Sancoale including those of Sarpanchas and secretaries which are coming with the radius of the Dabolim international airport and also officials of the Mormugao municipal council.

The district collector South Dr Shinde stressed on door-to-door collection of garbage to be implemented by the three panchayat bodies which are coming within the radius of Dabolim international airport and dispose off the collected garbage in a scientific manner. He also directed the Mormugao municipal council to cover up the dumps of old garbage which are lying open at the Mormugao Solid Waste Treatment Plant based at Headland-Sada, attracting birds at the flying zone operation with tarpaulin.

In order to combat the bird hit incidents, the district collector South Dr Shinde had convened a special meeting of all the stake holders.
