Irked over frequent power interruptions, Borim locals on Monday gheraoed the electricity department officials at Curti sub-station and served a 15-day deadline to improve the power situation failing which they threatened to hold an agitation. They also complained of receiving hefty power bills.

Former sarpanchas Sunil Savkar and Manurai Naik along with several locals visited the electricity department office to meet AE but he was not in office. However, the some staff refused to give his mobile number saying that the AE has gone to attend an official meeting.

Expressing strong resentment, Savkar along with the locals, later gheraoed JE Madkar and served a 15-day deadline to rectify the faults and improve the situation. They further warned that the power department staff will be responsible for any future action by the locals.

Sunil Savkar said, “Deulwada and Shirshirem locals receive power supply from Bethora Substation. They are facing power failures daily for 12-13 hours for over a month. Four electric poles have fallen at Bonbag-Bethora, due to which they are facing power cuts.”

Speaking further, he said, “The villagers have received hefty power bills this month and the amount is almost double compared to last month.”

Savkar blamed the State government for distributing LED bulbs through BJP workers since it’s the duty of the electricity department to distribute the same.

Showing the hefty power bills to the media, Sadanand Tukaram Zalmi, a villager said that earlier he used to get a monthly bill of Rs 350-400, but now he has received a monthly bill of Rs 800.

Other consumers who visited the office also complained of receiving hefty power bills.
