The Borim villagers have sought exemption for tiatrs, dramas and other entertainment programmes from the Goods and Services Tax (GST), during a gram sabha held on Sunday.
Tiatrs and dramas are important part of the Goan culture, and in order to keep it alive it should be exempted from the GST, exerted the locals.
The gram sabha was chaired by sarpanch Bhavana Naik and was monitored by secretary Prasad Naik. Panch members were also present for the gram sabha.
The locals said that imposition of GST is keeping the people away from these programmes. In order to promote staging of tiatrs, dramas and other entertainment programmes, the government should exempt it from the GST. The villagers took resolution to that effect. During the meeting, the villagers opposed nationalization of the rivers in the state claiming the state will lose control over the rivers.
The locals also stated that dredging of rivers will affect the marine life too.
A resolution was also taken to oppose the nationalisation of the rivers after the discussion.
The Borim villagers also opposed coal transportation in the state and followed it with a resolution.
