Gram sabhas of Curtorim, Cavelossim and Carmona held on Sunday adopted resolutions opposing the proposed Mopa airport and favouring Dabolim as the sole international airport for Goa.
At Cavelossim, the gram sabha decided to hold a rally in protest the proposed Mopa airport on November 9 from the Leela hotel to the Cavelossim church.
At Carmona, gram sabha members, while expressing their resolve to oppose the Mopa airport, demanded that the local MLA make his stand over the issue clear.
Further, the Cavelossim gram sabha unanimously resolved to oppose setting up of any illegal businesses in the village, and that all allegedly illegal structures built by a club in the village be demolished immediately through the intervention of the collector and CRZ authorities. The gram sabha also adopted a resolution to demolish the ‘illegal’ bamboo huts built on the beach.
A resolution demanding that a panchayat-level committee be formed to verify fictitious enrollments of ration cards and election cards was also adopted with a view to keeping in check the influx of migrants in the village. It was also decided to put in place some restrictions on the activities of ‘lamanis’ who pose as vendors on the beach.
At Carmona, the gram sabha discussed the issue of inadequate facilities for garbage disposal, and demanded that the panchayat address the issue at the earliest. Sarpanch Lavita Dias, who chaired the meeting, explained to the gram sabha that the house owners have been asked to make their own arrangements for disposal of garbage generated in their houses.
