Chicalim panchayat has issued a notice to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) over alleged release of waste water towards four-lane highway.
Sarpanch Veronica D’Souza said that some conscious citizens brought to notice of the panchayat about the release of waste water allegedly by AAI from the newly commissioned integrated terminal building of Dabolim airport towards northern end and the approach road of the four-lane highway.
She said the waste water is posing a health hazard to the people and it may even lead to mosquito breeding.
She said that “the Chicalim panchayat has directed the AAI to stop the release of waste water with immediate effect from the receipt of the notice dated April 15, failing which stringent action would be initiated for violating the sanitary norms.”
Meanwhile, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida conducted a site inspection along with the deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate, Mormugao, Gauresh Shankhwalkar, Kadamba Transport Corporation director Deepak Naik and others on Tuesday.
Speaking to media, Almeida
said that “it is a serious health hazard as it can lead to spread of viral diseases in the vicinity of the airport building.”
He requested the deputy collector Shankhwalkar to initiate necessary action against the concerned authorities for violating the health parameters.
Shankhwalkar, when contacted, said that he would re-inspect the site along with Vasco health centre officials and certainly issue a notice to the AAI for allegedly not complying with health norms.
