The gram sabha of Chicalim village panchayat on Sunday demanded imposition of fine of Rs 1,000 on any person found dumping garbage in the open within the panchayat jurisdiction.
Sarpanch Rubina Rodrigues, secretary Pradeep Tamhankar, panch members Francisco Nunes, Anita Vaz, Marie Mascarenhas, and representative of BDO Mahesh Madkarni were present.
Sarpanch Rodrigues, while answering queries on the issue of dumping of garbage, stated that the panchayat will be initiating steps to curtail the menace of garbage by appointing daily-wage workers for collection of plastic and dry waste from the cluster houses at Alto Chicalim, Assoi Dongri and Alto Dabolim, in addition to the door-to-door collection of garbage which is going on successfully in the panchayat jurisdiction.
The gram sabha however demanded with the panchayat to impose fine of Rs 1000 for any person who is found dumping garbage.
The gram sabha also raised the issue pertaining to installation of mobile tower. Sarpanch Rodrigues said that the panchayat had written to the Goa State Pollution Control Board asking it to guide them, however, in spite of two reminders till date no inspection has been done. She assured the gram sabha of following up the matter.
The issue pertaining to the road at Deusa was also placed before the gram sabha by Hilda Dias wherein it was disclosed that steps would be taken to decrease the slope of the road.
Charles Fernandes requested to erect nets behind the goalposts of the playground. Albino Vales requested the panchayat to reply point by point on the action taken in respect to the discussions during the previous gram sabha.
Francisco Nunes thanked the villagers for the smooth conduct of meeting and assured to fulfil the issues placed by them before the forthcoming gram sabha. At the outset, the panchayat secretary Tamhankar read out the minutes of the previous meeting.
