Chicalim Sarpanch Neelima Naik and some panchas have extended their support to the demand for special status for Goa.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of election to the deputy sarpanch’s post wherein Seby Pereira was elected unopposed on Thursday, Neelima said “The issue of special status has again taken the front seat.
It is matter of record that Chicalim gram sabha in past has unanimously resolved to support the demand for special status for Goa. Also we fully support the move of minister Alina Saldanha as well as South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar who have been taking the issue of Special status forward.
“This is long pending demand as we need to protect Goa and its diverse culture. Also it is very important to control influx of migrants which in turn is changing the demographic profile of Goa.
I don’t say that we are opposed to migrants but we want to say that this should be under control as more and more people means more pressure on the basic amenities, besides infrastructure including water, electricity, roads, transport, sewage and garbage disposal etc and Goa is very small state to handle the same,” she added. Panch Mary Mascarenhas, Prajyoti Kudalkar, and others have extended their support to the demand for special status for Goa.
