With solution eluding the garbage problem in the village, Chimbel Panchayat has decided to set up a garbage treatment plant to treat wet waste in the village.
The committee on garbage, which met on Sunday, has already identified two sites at Indira Nagar, of which one will be selected after technical experts from Detritus Solutions inspect the sites and decide which is best suitable to set up the plant.
At the meeting, the committee members dwelt on the best way to deal with the garbage problem. However, lack of space was cited as a major hurdle for setting up of a waste management plant in the village.
However, Detritus Solutions member Siddesh Thaly who was invited for the meeting, informed that their firm needs only about 200 sq mtrs area to set up a plant to treat wet waste.
“The plant will convert wet waste into manure and it will not emit foul smell,” he assured while adding that the firm will train persons from the village to operate the plant.
“All we need is 200 sq mtrs of land and a resolution from the panchayat requesting Detritus Solutions to set up waste plant in the village,” he informed and said the plant will be set up from Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan funds.
“All formalities of obtaining permission from the Goa Pollution Control Board and other authorities will be dealt by us,” he added and invited the committee members to inspect the plants set up by them in some municipalities and panchayats.
The members of the committee on garbage then cited several areas where the plant could be set up. However, deputy Sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar exhorted that the area should be situated in Indira Nagar since most of the waste is generated in this locality.
Later, the members identified two sites, one near the Indira Nagar bus stand and the other near a balwadi.
After inspection of the two sites, majority of the members chose the site near the Indira Nagar bus stand while rejecting the other site since it is in close proximity to the kabrastan and also located on a steep slope. However, Kunkolkar was in favour the site near the balwadi.
However, a decision will be taken only after technical experts from Detritus Solutions visit and decide on the best suitable site.
Panchayat secretary Rajendra Gawas, panchas, garbage committee members and Chimbel Gram Seva Kala Ani Sanskrutik Sangh representatives attended the meeting.
