The Chimbel panchayat and the management of Union High School met recently on Tuesday to try and find a solution over the panchayat’s directive to the school to vacate the room on the ground floor, so as to set up a non-bedded primary health centre, which has been allotted by the government.

However, the first round of talks remained inconclusive as the Union HS chairman failed to turn up due to ill health and his representative, Shailesh Chopdekar, who is also the school manager, sought more time to discuss the issue with the management before arriving at any conclusion.

It may be recalled that Herald had highlighted that the Chimbel panchayat had issued notice to Union HS to vacate the room on the ground floor, housing the school’s office and computer room, so that the village could get its own PHC.

At the meeting, deputy Sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar highlighted that the PHC is the need of the hour for the Chimbel villagers as private practitioners charge a hefty fees for treatment.

“There are many poor villagers who cannot afford the fees of the private practitioners and the PHC, if set up, would benefit them as treatment, along with medicines, would be provided free of cost,” he said.

Some prominent villagers, who were invited for the meeting, suggested several alternatives to solve the impasse.

A villager, Pandurang Kunkolkar said that a room could be built in the space that is available near the panchayat building, and the computer room of the school can shifted there.

Another villager Paul Fernandes, suggested that the school management should try to shift its office and the computer room to the first floor in the space which is currently used to dump unused furniture.

However, no conclusion could be arrived at during the meeting as Chopdekar said that he would put forth the views of the panchayat to the management at a meeting to be held at the end of October. “I alone cannot take any decision,” he informed.

Later, the panchayat decided to hold another meeting with the school management in the first week of November, the dates of which will be decided later.
