Colva gram sabha, on Sunday, which witnessed a decision being taken to stay out of the Margao Outline Development Plan (ODP), discussed various issues including construction of retaining walls, de-silting of water bodies and maintenance of street lights.
Speaking at the meeting, Alexander Fernandes raised the issue of the rumours about the proposed inclusion of the village in the Margao ODP.
Addressing the gathering, sarpanch Anthony Fernandes said that though the panchayat had received a letter from the SGPDA in 2003 seeking the opinion of the panchayat on whether it would like to be included in the Margao ODP, and added they have not received any new intimation on the issue.
“In 2003 there was a letter sent where the panchayat had strongly objected to being included in the ODP. This time, we have not received any letter, but if we do, we will object to it,” said the sarpanch.
Development projects taken up during the meeting included restoring and construction of bandhs in the village, reconstruction of sluice gates, clearing of drains and maintaining a water canal. The decision was taken to write to the irrigation department along with mapped plans of the area.
As for plans under the Village Development Committee (VDC), locals were disappointed with the delay by the panchayat in getting approvals for the projects. The sarpanch informed that a constant change in VP secretaries was the reason for the delay, however with a permanent secretary being given to the panchayat, the works would be undertaken before March.
Sarpanch Anthony informed the gram sabha that the No Objection Certificate for rebuilding the panchayat ghar has been received. The ghar is being built using the golden jubilee funds and will cover a 90 sqm area with a ground plus two floors.
