The gram sabha of Cortalim Quelossim village panchayat on Sunday demanded bifurcation of the panchayat area for faster development and immediate addressal of the problems of the residents.
The gram sabha had earlier adopted a resolution for bifurcation of the panchayat into two parts and the proposal had been sent to the director of panchayats and also forwarded to the government, however, nothing materialised.
The gram sabha said that the MLA Alina Saldanha and Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar should fulfil the demand on priority basis in the larger interest of the villagers.
The gram sabha questioned the sarpanch Hilario Figueiredo for not taking any step in resolving the garbage issue.
The panch member of ward 6 Raymond D’Sa alleged that the sarpanch misused the funds which were allocated to lift garbage in his ward.
The villagers expressed ire over dumping of garbage in the open space close to a transformer at Kira Paula. The gram sabha demanded that a fence be erected in order to curb the dumping problem.
Various other issues pertaining to casinos, cruise liners, mobile tower, parking of vehicles next to the speed breakers at Our Lady of Perpetual Succor High School were also discussed.
They demanded an enquiry into the cutting of mangroves in Quelossim and filing a first information report (FIR) against the culprits involved in it.
A discussion was also held on constituting a village development committee, however the gram sabha members took up the garbage issue for discussion. Panch member D’Sa also demanded that a morgue facility be made available for the villagers.
