The gram sabha members of Cortalim-Quelossim village panchayat have strongly objected the allocation of land by the Cortalim Comunidade authorities for construction of Haj house in its jurisdiction. The gram sabha members have demanded that the Cortalim Comunidade authorities allocate land for setting up a garbage treatment plant.
Issues related to developmental works besides working of the panchayat body were discussed during the gram sabha on Sunday. In an important decision, the gram sabha members unanimously resolved in favour of retaining the existing fishing jetty by way of upgradation and repair works and decided against construction of a new jetty.
The issue came up for discussion after some fishing community members drew the attention of the gram sabha to the dilapidated condition of the jetty and the danger it may cause to human lives if it collapses.
Villagers also resolved that the panchayat should restrict loud music and entertainment programmes onboard cruise liners berthed near Cortalim ferry wharf after 10 pm and that the cruise management should be warned that their licence will be cancelled if they continue to play loud music after stipulated time.
Aggrieved members said that a cruise liner at Cortalim ferry wharf is disturbing the peace and tranquility of the village. A villager was allegedly assaulted by a crew of a cruise liner some days ago when the former question the latter over loud music. The situation had turned tense, following the incident and villagers had decided to raise the issue during the gram sabha meeting.
