The Dramapur panchayat has decided to act tough on the illegal construction being carried out in its eco-sensitive zone, located along foothills,
The panchayat will chalk out an action plan on the issue at the forthcoming panchayat body meeting.
The panchayat had recently carried out inspection of an illegal construction which has been carried out by encroaching the service road of the water resource department’s irrigation project.
The panchayat had later served stop-work order. However, availing of the long weekend, the construction work has commenced once again in defiance of the order issued by the panchayat.
Speaking to reporters, the sarpanch Sanjana Chari said, “We got the information that the work was carried out during the extended weekend. The panchayat is very serious about the issue. We will place the inspection report before the body meeting and will initiate process for demolition of the illegal construction.”
“The panchayat will act tough on the illegal construction,” she vowed.
The villagers informed that despite the stop work orders the illegal houses were completed on Maundy Thursday as they were busy attending church services.
They pointed out that the plots, which have been purchased by migrants, do not have proper access and they have encroached on comunidade land as well as the service road of the water resource department.
They pointed out that this is a serious matter as there is an utter disregard to the local body by the migrants, who are in the process of building a colony of their own, and added that the panchayat should act before the matter goes out of hand as the place is eco-sensitive zone and marked as no development zone in the regional plan.
