Sarpanch of Chimbel panchayat Chandrakant Kunkolkar, on Tuesday, said that the decision on whether village should be a part of Greater Panaji Planning and Development Authority or not would be decided by the gram sabha to be held on February 25.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, along with his deputy and others, Kunkolkar said that the panchayat would go by the people’s say on the matter, including seeking exclusion of the village from the newly formed PDA.
He questioned the motive behind the demand for his resignation as sarpanch.
He denied the charges leveled against him by his opponents that he had given approval for inclusion of the village in GPPDA and had taken bribe for the same.
Kunkolkar said that he would go to any extent prove his innocence.
He said that the panchayat did not receive any communication from the government about the inclusion of the village in GPPDA and that all details would be placed before the gram sabha.
He said that recently officials had come for inspection of sewerage network.
The visit, however, led to rumours that the hutments in the area would be demolished once the area is included in the GPPDA, which he added would not be allowed to happen.
Sarpanch said that in the past he had protected Indira Nagar hutments from being demolished and that he would protect it in the future too.
The ruling group urged the villages to maintain calm.
