The Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) recently approved five major developmental projects worth around Rs 80 crore in Ponda municipal jurisdiction. This was announced by the PMC chairperson after a council meeting on Wednesday.
The first project is a football stadium with a spectator capacity of 4,000 – 5,000, besides recreation and parking facilities. The project is expected to come up near the PMC building. The second project is an underpass at Saint Anne’s Church in Upper Bazaar, which will help the locals cross the road during rush hours.
There will be a presentation on this project in the chief minister’s presence at the time of its launch.The third project is the development of the Shastri Hall building with multilevel parking facilities and the fourth project is the development of a municipal garden.
The fifth project is the development of Wards 3 and 4 as ‘model wards’ under the City Development Plan, followed by the development of the other wards. Further, Ward 1 and 10 will be developed as ‘model wards’ under the Swatch Bharat Scheme.
Earlier, during the council meeting, the problems faced by women in the absence of toilets, especially in the town, was discussed.The councillors also suggested against giving the volleyball ground for any other purpose, and complained that shopkeepers were placing their goods in the space in front of their shops, thereby inconveniencing pedestrians.
