Ration card holders from Kapileshwari, at the Kavlem gram sabha on Sunday, complained that the sudden closure of a fair price shop in the vicinity was forcing them to travel long distances to get subsidized items.
They have also demanded that Kavlem Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar look into matter and arrange for subsidized items to be sold in Kapileshwari itself.Anand Naik informed the gram sabha that around 900 ration card holders were registered with a fair price shop at Kapileshwari.
The owner had closed the shop this month as he could not afford to keep it open and he had conveyed the same to the Ponda Civil Supplies Department (CSD).
Naik further informed that after the shop was closed, the CSD had made arrangements for some of the 900-odd ration card holders to obtain subsidized items at a fair price shop in Talaulim, which is three kilometers away, while the others were assigned to a shop in Kavlem.
The Kapileshwari ration card holders complained that the CSD did not take them into confidence before assigning their rations cards to those shops. They also claimed that the owner of the closed shop in Kapileshwari, while insisting that he had put up a notice of closure one month ago, had not done so.
