Around fifty residents of Koppardem village in Poriem constituency in protest against the shortage of water supply during the past eight days on Friday gheraoed the assistant engineer of PWD water supply section in Valpoi Eknath Paste.
Villagers accused the operator of negligence who they say does not release water properly inconveniencing the residents. They also questioned if the department officials have a blueprint of water supply lines. “We are struggling from the past 8 days and no step is taken by PWD department to restore water supply in our village.”
A villager Shripad Sawant said that a village in the vicinity receives water supply round the clock. An affected senior citizen claimed that maintenance of the pipes is not done properly due to which the water supply gets interrupted. Some villagers rued that despite the installation of new water pipeline at a cost of Rs 9 crore to Thane village passing through Koppardem the residents are suffering.
AE Paste gave a patient hearing to the villagers and tried to pacify them by assuring that the water supply will be restored within two days until then water sill be supplied by tankers. He also said that the water supply was disrupted due to a power shutdown last week adding in most of the remote areas, villagers are unhappy with the operators.
