Residents of Bhoma along with members of BJP Yuva Morcha Priol on Sunday inspected heaps of slag dumped near Kundaim Industrial Estate.
The residents demanded to immediately clear the slag dumped in an area of about 50,000 sq mtrs near Kundaim Industrial Estate, as they fear that it will pose great danger to the life of the locals at Bhoma.
The villagers expressed concern that the heaps dumped are not the part of marked industrial estate and it is a private property purchased by a company to dump its waste.
They fear that if the slag dumped atop is not cleared, then the slag may flow down in the village, where houses are located, in the monsoon.
BJP Yuva Morcha chief Amol Kerkar, Secretary Mahesh Shilkar, Sanjay Naik and many residents visited the site, where slag is dumped by the company and questioned the company officials.
Company manager Motilal assured that they are taking care that the dump does not flow down.
When asked regarding the site, Motilal said: “The company has purchased the plot and the Bhoma Panchayat granted NOC to dump the waste. We also pay house tax for the rooms constructed near the shed in the area to the panchayat,” stated Motilal.
BJP Priol chief Amol Kerkar said the slag dumped is dangerous to human life.
“Further, the rooms constructed near the company are situated close by to the area where the slag is dumped and it is very dangerous,” added Kerkar.
Secretary Mahesh Shilkar said they will bring the matter to the notice of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and request him to take appropriate action in the matter.
A local, Sanjay Naik, said they are fighting against the issue since the last three years and they have submitted memorandums to Pollution Control Board, industries minister and environment minister and also raised the issue in the gram sabhas, but the issue remained unsolved.
