Tense moments were witnessed at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, Fatorda, a day ahead of the inauguration of the Lusofonia Games at the venue. Locals gathered at the site late Friday evening and argued with the officials demanding entry passes for the sporting event.
As the situation threatened to veer out of control, sub-divisional magistrate, Salcete, Sangeeta Naik, and senior police officials rushed to the site and managed to rein in the protesters.
Speaking to TOI over the phone from the site, Naik said that the protestors were engaged in a meeting with the organizing committee of the sports events over their demand for entry passes. She said that the situation was well under control.
