An illegal scrapyard along with several cubicles housing migrants and an illegal kiosk installed on the roadside at Angdi, Loutolim were demolished by the village panchayat of Loutolim in the presence of the block development officer (BDO), M. S. Mardolkar and joint Mamlatdar Diona Pereira, recently.

The demolition was carried out by PWD workers under strict police vigil.

Sources informed that the same illegal cubicles and a scrapyard were earlier demolished by the Communidade of Loutolim in December last year, however, the structures soon reappeared.

“The panchayat initiated a fresh process of site inspection in January 2013 followed by issue of show cause notice, demolition notice and after following due process the present demolition was carried out,” Loutolim sarpanch Maria Monteiro claimed.

However, soon after the demolition team left the site, the structures were being erected again with scant respect to law, source said.
