Residents of Manora-Raia have stopped construction of a road along the water pipeline service road passing through the hilly area of the village before joining the public road at Anuz, Nuvem.
A group of residents under the banner of Villagers of Manora-Raia told the PWD official to stop all work on the road and demanding erection of gate on both sides of the road.
A resident Anthony Fernandes told the media that the water pipeline service road is solely a government utility road and is not meant for public usage. He pointed out that anti-social elements have taken advantage of the isolated road by resorting to anti-social activities, thus disturbing peace of the locality. “We have demanded that the authorities should not open this road for public use, since it passes over the water pipeline”, he said, warning that the concerned department will be held responsible if the pipeline is damaged because of the development of the pipeline service road.
The villagers have taken up the issue with the local MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, who has spoken to the concerned PWD engineer to respect the sentiments of the people.
In the memorandum, the Villagers of Manora-Raia have reiterated their demand to put a stop to the migrants menace in Manora. They have demanded action against the illegal houses occupied by migrants without construction license and permission of the Raia Panchayat body.
