The gram sabha of Mayem village panchayat was adjourned for the second time on Sunday after villagers protested against it being held in the absence of panchayat secretary Amar Tirodkar.
The villagers have been waiting for Tirodkar to meet their demand of giving them a copy of a gram sabha resolution that had demanded filing of an FIR against former sarpanch Veena Vishwas Chodankar and erstwhile panchayat secretary Suresh Fadte.
The resolution was taken during an earlier gramsabha because of the alleged misplacement of documents by the former sarpanch and secretary pertaining to issuance of NOC to a mining company to expand their business activities without taking other panchayat members into confidence.
Former sarpanch Kashinath Mayekar, who had promised to raise his voice against corruption at the gram sabha, did not attend Sunday’s meet. He later appeared at the gram sabha venue (after it was adjourned) and claimed that he was forced to stay away from the gramsabha venue by some senior BJP leaders by using police force.
The Mayem gramsabha was held on June 7 by Mayem acting sarpanch Narendra Tari.
But, panchayat secretary Tirodkar was absent. As the gram sabha was to be held mainly to discuss the matter of the resolution copy with Tirodkar, with the secretary not reporting, the villagers suspended the gram sabha till further notice.
Villagers suspect foul play in panchayat affairs due to absence of panchayat secretary Tirodkar on two consecutive occasions. Acting sarpanch Narendra Tari said that the issue can be sorted out only in the presence of Tirodkar.
