A unanimous resolution was taken at the gram sabha of Mayem village panchayat held on Sunday at Mayem VP premises to file an FIR and a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) against former Mayem sarpanch Veena Chodankar and former panchayat secretary Suresh Fadte.
This resolution was passed by the panchayat body after convening a special half hour meeting behind closed doors of the panchayat hall, while the gram sabha was in session.
The villagers were unwilling to proceed with the gram sabha unless the resolution initiating action against the former sarpanch and secretary was passed. During the meeting, the panchayat body decided to file a police complaint and a complaint with the ACB against the two former members for alleged; scams, corruption and thefts committed by them during their tenure.
It was only after the resolution to file the FIR and complaint with the ACB was passed, that the proceedings of gram sabha were restarted.
Meanwhile, former Mayem sarpanch Kashinath Mayekar has expressed satisfaction that the panchayat secretary Mahadev Naik has started an official inquiry into the alleged scam in the village. He also added that the FIR and a complaint with the ACB will be filed by the panchayat authorities in all probability, by Monday.
Another key resolution passed was to register a protest against the brother of deputy speaker Premendra Shet for not allowing Mayem sarpanch Neha Thanekar to attend the joint meeting of mining company officials and farmers from Mayem village convened on 19 November, which was held at the office of Bicholim mamlatdar to finalize the compensation to agitating farmers.
Other resolutions passed were; maintaining sufficient balance in the panchayat to fund emergency situations, about the cancellation of the third shift of Sesa Goa, inquiry into the alleged stabbing of a local, Sanjay Mayekar during the site inspection of the panchayat, directing mining companies to stop pumping out water from the pit so that farmers have access to sufficient water, and lastly, to take into consideration private houses in Mayem village while conducting the survey of custodians of evacuee property of Mayem.
