Claiming that a Moira panchayat meeting conducted on July 12 at 2 pm was illegal, a panch has requested the Director of Panchayats (DoP) to direct the panchayat secretary to cancel the meeting on July 12.
In a letter to the DoP, Adv Raghuvir Bagkar stated that there was a general meeting in the panchayat scheduled on July 12 at 10.30 am.
“I had gone on time but there was no trace of the Moira Panchayat Secretary Arjun Velip and Sarpanch, and I waited till 11.10 am,” stated Bagkar.
“I went to the panchayat for some work on July 18 and in a habitual manner, I went through the proceedings book, as I was absent for a prior panchayat meeting on June 28. While going through the book, I was shocked to find that a general meeting was conducted on July 12, but at 2 pm. While the four ruling members were present at the meeting, we three opposition panchas were absent,” he added.
Bagkar has now requested the DoP to direct the panchayat secretary to cancel the meeting convened on July 12.
When contacted, Moira Panchayat Secretary Arjun Velip admitted that the meeting was scheduled to be held on July 12 at 10.30 am.
“Incidentally, on the same day there was a function at St Xavier’s High School at Moira at 10.30 am, where Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was the chief guest. Since the sarpanch also had an invitation, he requested me to postpone the meeting to 2 pm,” informed Velip.
“Accordingly, I called up all the remaining six panchas to inform about the change in the timing of the meeting. I also phoned Bagkar, but both his mobile phones were found switched off. So I phoned Panch Poonam Volvoiker of his group and told her to convey the revised timings of the meeting to Bagkar,” said Velip.
“Later, when I contacted Poonam Volvoiker, she said she is sick and she would not be able to attend the meeting and she tried to contact Bagkar, but could not succeed. Since it was decided at the last minute to postpone the meeting in the afternoon, there was no time to issue notices to the panchas,” added Velip.
