Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho on Sunday said that the seven panchayats in Mormugao taluka which comes under the radius of the flying zone of Dabolim airport will get Rs 7 lakh each in order to maintain cleanliness, and to curb the bird hit incidents for the safety of air passengers.
Godinho was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the much awaited independent panchayat ghar for Quelossim Panchayat at Quelossim in the presence of Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, panchayat director Sandhya Kamat,Quelossim Sarpanch Maria Souza, deputy sarpanch Sebastiao Serrao and other panch members of the Panchayat.
The Quelossim panchayat was operating from the Cortalim panchayat ghar after its bifurcation.
Speaking further, Godinho said that the seven panchayat bodies in Mormugao taluka excluding the newly formed Quelossim Panchayat was earlier getting Rs 1 lakh each for cleanliness. “These seven panchayat bodies including Quelossim will now be receiving Rs 7 lakh each as they are coming under the radius of the flying zone of Dabolim airport”, said Godinho.
He also disclosed that the weaker panchayat bodies in the state will also be receiving Rs 3 to Rs 5 lakh from the earlier Rs 1 lakh for cleanliness.
He gave indications to increase the funds of various other government schemes, benefitting the people in panchayat jurisdictions.
Godinho also decided to initiate action against some secretaries in order to bring transparency and discipline in the functioning of the panchayat.
