Carmona panchayat on Tuesday decided to write to the town and country planning department for a joint inspection of the controversial Raheja project even as the panchayat plans to seek fresh opinion from the town and country planning ministry on the recent developments pertaining to Regional Plan 2021.
The housing project was granted construction licence by the previous body after the TCP granted technical clearance based on draft regional plan 2021.
Speaking to reporters after the first panchayat body meeting, sarpanch Winston Dias on Tuesday said that the body has resolved to write to the TCP department to hold a joint inspection with the panchayat body of the controversial project.
He said that while the promoters of the project have informed the panchayat about their plans to commence the construction work, he said that the panchayat will ask them to keep it on hold. He said that the present body wants to re-examine the project even though the previous body had granted permission there have been a lot of complaints.
He said that the major concern is of the roads which have not been widened in the village and hence the project needs to be re-examined.
Panch member Allwyn Jeorge claimed that the previous body had granted the construction licence arbitrarily without verifying facts. He said the previous inspection report by the TCP states that the project will put a lot of stress on the existing infrastructure.
He said at present nothing has changed and we want the government to first improve the infrastructure in the village as the villagers are facing hardships. He said that the panchayat will also be writing to the TCP Minister to seek his guidance on the project given the recent changes brought about by the government vis-a-vis the regional plan.
Meanwhile, the sarpanch informed that the panchayat body has decided to carry out door-to-door collection of dry garbage in the village. He further stated that the body has also resolved to constitute the village development committee so that the village development plan can be prepared.
