The residents of New Vaddem Vasco on Tuesday approached the Mormugao Municipal Council demanding action against a camouflaged mobile tower erected on top of a building in residential area.According to the residents, the mobile tower concealed within a water tank was erected on the terrace of a residential building opposite Minino bar in New Vaddem and that too without taking the locals into confidence or by obtaining NOC from the municipality.

Thus the resident’s first kick started signature campaign against the mobile tower and the same was submitted in the form of complaint signed by 132 residents to MMC on Tuesday.”Initially, when we noticed the water tank on the terrace of the building, we assumed that the party concerned must have installed a water tank, however further inquiry revealed that water tank is nothing but a modern type of mobile tower,” a local resident said. ”

Also, when we inquired with Mormugao Municipality as to whether they have issued any permission to erect any tower in our locality, the reply came negative and thus we have now formally lodged our complaint with the Mormugao municipal Chief Officer Deepali Naik demanding immediate action against the illegal mobile tower failing which we would be compelled to agitate as we don’t want such mobile tower menace in our area as the same is leading to serious health hazard,” he added.

Confirming that the mobile tower is illegal, Chief Officer Deepali Naik informed that she has already directed the municipal staff to inspect the site and submit a report. “Once the same is received we would take action and would ask the party to remove the mobile tower,” she said.
