Non-utilization of funds to the tune of 7 lakh earmarked for national rural employment guarantee scheme, unaccounted expenditure pointed out in audit report 2011-12 and a few other issues sparked of much heat and dust at the gram sabha of Chimbel panchayat on Sunday.
Deputy sarpanch Chandrakant P Kunkolker chaired the meeting in the absence of sarpanch Sruti Kunkolker for the fifth consecutive time.
When the audit report was taken up for discussion, the members were irked about the irregularities. Fees of 35,000 were paid to the advocate and an amount of 75,000 was withdrawn from the bank but receipts and details were not provided to the auditor.
The acting sarpanch only gave some vague answers about the return of 7 lakh meant for rural employment to RDA. Agitated villagers pointed out that it could have been utilized for construction of nullahs, protection of water bodies and other useful work for the community.
The members expressed surprise about the expenditure of 25,000 in audit report for maintenance of cattle pound, alleging that the so called pound, is the ante room of a store used for electrical equipment.
The members also grilled the acting sarpanch on other expenditure not shown in the audit reports, but he only assured that he will examine the matter.
The members demanded more time to discuss the audit report, but it was approved amidst protests from them.
The deputy sarpanch appealed to all members to contribute to the fund for the rehabilitation of people affected in Uttarakhand disaster.
