Assuring the villagers of Sancoale that his department would solve the power crisis affecting the villager, Vasco executive engineer Gopinathan Pillai asked for three months time to set things in order.

Pillai was speaking at a public meeting called by the Sancoale Panchayat in view of the rising number of cases relating to frequent power shut down and voltage fluctuations.

The engineer however made it clear that he would require the support of the sarpanch to get government approval for the estimates pertaining to replacement of power poles and the conductors.

Earlier, Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar said the department does not have sufficient spares, fixtures and many times the fixtures are of poor quality. He said that Sesa feeder was providing power to areas as far as 7 kms distance and the villagers have to go to Chicalim to fix the problems in event of power outage. Many times the department officials say that they do not have vehicles to attend to the problems.

The sarpanch made a fervent plea to ensure that all the street lights are repaired before Chaturthi and requested that in future spares be supplied to the panchayat in advance for festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali, Christmas, etc.

A villager, Ganesh Naik, claimed that many a times the phones of the department at the sub-station are kept off the hook to avoid attending to public grievances. Another villager, Gaurish Naik, alleged that his electrical gadgets like fridge were not functioning due to low voltage. He also alleged that overhead wires were very low which could result in a disaster.

Residents of Zuari Nagar and Upas Nagar alleged that most of the street lights are not functioning and in some cases for over a year. Panchas Anita Mundiliar and Govind Lamani also highlighted the problems of the residents in their wards.

The meeting ended with the assurance from Pillai to give him three months and thereafter to hold another meeting to review the progress made in solving the power crisis.
