Three days after a truckload of electric waste was dumped at Veroda-Cuncolim along the road leading to the Seven Temples, there’s no action against the miscreants yet, even as locals pointed accusing fingers at a panchayat body behind the episode.
What’s surprising to note is that neither the Cuncolim Municipal Council has lifted away the waste from the roadside nor has the Cuncolim police initiated action to bring the culprits to book.
Locals said a green-coloured truck had unloaded the electric waste, consisting of damaged tube lights at three different places in the locality before speeding away. They now suspect a panchayat body behind the incident, demanding that the police conduct a thorough investigation to unearth the facts.
A local resident Mahesh Soiru Gaonkar warned that people will not keep quiet if there’s delay in bringing the culprits to book and threatened to hold a dharna. “We have lodged our complaint with the Cuncolim civic body over the dumping of the electric waste along the road to Seven Temples. We have also been given to understand that it is the handiwork of a panchayat body. The authorities should investigate the incident and bring all facts to light,” he demanded.
When contacted, CMC Chairperson Devendra Desai said, “I will ask the CO to lodge a formal complaint with the Cuncolim police and investigate the matter. Let them find out whether any panchayat body is involved in the incident,” he said.
