The Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim (CAC) village panchayat sarpanch Martha Saldanha has decided to file a police complaint against some villagers who had allegedly trespassed into the panchayat premises and threatened the staff during a protest rally which they had taken out against the construction of hotel at Arossim and scrapping of draft CRZ notification 2018.
Addressing a press conference at the panchayat premises on Monday, Saldanha said that the protesters consisted of very few villagers including children. She said, “What a shame that we have 4,500 people in the village but these people who were protesting on last Friday garnered support of only 71 people including children. Isn’t it a shame for the people who have initiated the protest?”
Brushing aside the allegations made by the protesters during the rally, Saldanha said, “The hotel proponent has obtained all necessary permissions from the competent authorities. I also want to clarify that only after district court passed an order asking us to issue construction licence once all the documents are cleared, the panchayat body has issued the licence.
Since the project proponent produced all the documents, the file was placed before the panchayat body and all the nine members unanimously resolved to grant licence. Their documents were all clear and not a single document was missing so how can we refuse permission,” disclosed Saldanha.
