The gram sabha members of Quelossim village panchayat have decided to go on a hunger strike if the issue pertaining to the pending transfer of funds from Cortalim village panchayat to Quelossim panchayat, as directed by the director of panchayats, is not resolved within the next 15 days.
The issue pertaining to the pending transfer of funds was raised by Vincent Pereira and Lopinho Xavier.
Later, it was unanimously decided by the gram sabha members that, as the issue is unnecessarily being prolonged and also as the Quelossim panchayat is unable to take up any development work due to lack of funds, the panchayat members and the villagers should meet the Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho as well as Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha and request them to resolve the issue at the earliest and make funds available to the panchayat.
They said if the issue is not resolved within the next 15 days, then the villagers would proceed on a hunger strike to press for the demand.
Another villager Xavier raised the issue of ‘Mini India Park’. He said that the panchayat body in the past had resolved to seek legal opinion in order to revoke the provisional NOC granted to the Mini Park by then Cortalim-Quelossim panchayat.
“Even after six months, the panchayat has failed to act on the gram sabha resolution despite the fact that IPB has withdrawn its in-principle approval to the project proponent,” he said.
Sarpanch Maria Colaco, while replying on the issue, assured to take legal opinion within the next 15 days in the interest of the village.
While discussing the garbage issue, the gram sabha members suggested to find out the details of the proposed site at IDC-Verna where the government intends to construct a garbage treatment plant.
The villagers also decided not to oppose the garbage plant if it comes up at IDC-Verna, but in case it is proposed in the village, then they said they would have to study all the aspects of the plant including pollution and thereafter they would decide on it.
The issues pertaining to the scrapyards, rash driving on village roads were also discussed during the meeting.
