They have also accused the panchayat of being corrupt and involved in the illegalities in Raia.Addressing the press in Margao, Raia villagers, led by Anthony Fernandes, claimed that the panchayat’s actions were “anti-people and anti-village”.
They have also slammed the authorities for not acting on several of their complaints.”For two years, we have been knocking the doors of all authorities, but no one has taken action on our complaints,” said Fernandes.
At the press conference, the villagers displayed placards that said, “Raia Panchayat-TCP-BDO-Directorate of Panchayats-PHC Loutolim-Pollution Control Board are hand-in-gloves with migrants and Salgaocar College.
In 2013-2014, the Raia panchayat along with 1ocals carried out a survey of illegal houses of migrants in Manora and issued a show-cause notice to the houses in August 2014.
Fernandes claimed that despite several demands to demolish the illegal houses, Sarpanch Isidorio told the locals, when they met him in the panchayat office, that he would not take action against the migrants and that he would file a police complaint against the locals if they raise the issue again.
He added, “Several complaints have also been made to the Block Development Office (BDO) Salcete and Deputy Director of Panchayat to take action against the panchayat onn the issue, but in vain.”The villagers have also alleged that the panchayat has been dillydallying on the Salgaocar College case.
