The Raia gram panchayat has taken a decision to acquire around 2,000 sq m of land in front of the village cemetery belonging to Raia comunidade to construct a full fledged fish market and a bus bay.
The panchayat members decision was taken after locals highlighted the need to have a bus shelter as the existing bus shed had been earlier demolished without making alternative arrangement, besides the need for a full fledged fish market in village. The locals also demanded the panchayat writes to the state government to authorize kiosks to sell retail fish at subsidized rates in Raia and all over the state as assured by the fisheries department in the past.
“The government should immediately install the fish ‘gaddas’ like the horticulture ‘gaddas’ or withdraw the subsidy on diesel given to trawler owners,” said Raia resident Francis Colaco.
Other matters entertained were regarding the hardships faced by locals over not receiving electricity bills on time, to which the panchayat decided to write to the electricity department demanding issuance of the electricity bills on monthly basis.
In another decision, the panchayat agreed to write to the district magistrate to notify and ban heavy vehicles movement on the Bela Vista-Santemol-Maina road as well other internal roads in the village. The panchayat also moved a resolution to develop roads in ST dominated areas under Tribal Sub-Plan).
