The Raia gram sabha strongly expressed disapproval regarding the move by government to construct bridge from Shiroda to Rachol over River Zuari declaring that the same shall cause major devastation of fields, houses as well as environment.
A resolution was adopted demanding that the tender called by Goa Infrastructure Development Corporation (GIDC) be omitted and the project to construct the bridge be scraped. Furthermore, the meeting adopted a resolution that the government rephrase Goa Panchayat (Gram Sabha meetings) Rules 1996 and The Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1994 delegating authority to gram sabha members to ask questions to panchayat body at gram sabha.
The issue arose as sarpanch and activist Xavier Fernandes refused to allow gram sabha questions raised by members at the Sunday gram sabha meeting.
Amongst various resolutions adopted by the Raia gram sabha were proposals to send a welcome letter to new voters on the Voters Day, to hold police public met and to demand for Primary Health Centre with a bedded hospital for Raia, Loutulim, Rachol and Nuvem.
A resolution was also adopted to have a well equipped panchayat library for the benefit of locals accompanying gram sabha members recommended the sarpanch to take over the library commenced by former MP Eduardo Faleiro.
