VASCO: The motion on whether Chicalim sarpanch Mary Mascarenhas has majority support or not,was discussed at a meeting on Tuesday but its outcome will depend on the matter which is in the high court of Bombay at Goa.
On February 19, Mascarenhas was declared sarpanch of Chicalim by six to five votes in the 11-member body. Three hours later, a no trust notice was given to the bock development officer (BDO) against her by six panchas backed by Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho. The BDO then called for a vote of confidence.
Challenging this, Mascarenhas had moved the high court. BDO Uday Prabhudesai was the observer and seputy sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav was the presiding officer. The counting of the votes was not done. The ballot box was kept in the custody of the panchayat secretary.
