A retired brigadier of the Indian Army has questioned the hosting of the Defence Expo alleging that it is an unnecessary drain on the State exchequer.
Speaking to the media in Panjim on Tuesday, retd Brigadier and former Member of Parliament Sudhir Sawant alleged that while defence forces in the country lack weapons, the country has invited countries that refrain from displaying latest war weapons to the DefExpo.”The State government is spending crores of rupees on the event. Who will buy these weapons and equipment? Obviously not the common man because government itself is the buyer,” he said seeking to know from the government the motive to hold such a mega event.
“No government in the world will give latest technology or equipment. We have to be self sufficient to overcome the limitations. Our defence forces have no new guns for the last 26 years, no new aircrafts, no submarines and no radars. This event will not serve any purpose,” he added.
