Issues concerning regional plan, market tax collection and garbage, dominated the proceedings of the gram sabha of the Navelim village panchayat on Sunday.
Following a heated discussion over the regional plan, the gram sabha adopted a resolution to the effect that the regional plan of the village would not be implemented until amendments made to the village plan are approved by the people after it is placed in the panchayat.
Gram sabha members pointed out that the villagers had rejected the earlier draft plan and even suggested several corrections to it.
The gram sabha also passed a surplus budget of 21 lakh which contains significant provisions for development and sanitation.
The issue of market tax collection also came to the fore with the gram sabha remaining divided over whether the collection should be done by the panchayat or outsourced by way of auctioning.
Voicing concern over dumping of garbage on the roadside, villagers demanded that CCTV cameras be installed at major road junctions in the village.
Damage caused to crops owing to cattle straying into the fields also came to the fore, with the villagers demanding that the cattle owners tag their animals for easy identification.
