The Borim gram sabha, on Sunday, witnessed a ruckus over the erection of a mobile tower at Tamshirem, and plots being developed at Khajorde.

The meeting, which was presided over by the sarpanch Sanjay Gaude, didn’t not pass any resolution.  The panchayat body assured the villagers to look into their issues.

The gram sabha started with the issue of mobile tower, which the people from Tamshirem are opposing for the last some months.

Though the panchayat had given an assurance that the tower will be dismantled, no steps have been initiated in that direction. This irked the people and they vented  their ire during the meeting. Two youth raised the issue of plots being developed on hillock of Khajordem and they held the local panch Dinesh Raikar responsible for the same

They alleged that if the houses come up on the hillock, then the sanctity of a religious place there will be affected.

The youth said that there will be problems of garbage and sewerage.

They alleged that the panch members are in hand in glove with developer and hence have not initiated any action against him. At this juncture, the sarpanch stood up and brushed aside the allegations.

Raikar replied that initially he was not aware of the plots being developed in his ward and clarified that he has no connection with the developer.

No other issues beside the two were discussed during the meeting, which ended at around 1 p.m.

“We couldn’t discuss anything else,’’ Gaude told this daily.

Interestingly, womenfolk from Tamshirem entered the panchayat hall, after gram sabha ended and demanded with the sarpanch that he should give in writing that he would  not allow the mobile tower to be made operational.

Gaude tried to pacify them and requested them to lodge a formal  complaint and assured them to forward it to the concerned authorities. Around 70-odd people then signed against the mobile tower.

How about the issue of plots being developed on hillock of Khajordem?

When it is very clear that hill-cutting will literally destroy our Goa, why on earth do they even entertain these type of thoughts, leave alone such plans?

I can’t believe that no resolution was passed stating that the development of those plots will NOT be allowed!

People of Borim, WAKE UP! It is not sufficient to just v1oice your objection… it is needed to put it down in writing, as a Gram Sabha Resolution
