The Salcete block development officer (BDO), Manuel Baretto informed that he  has sent a detailed  report to the  director of panchayats on Tuesday  explaining how  his staff  member,  deputed as the presiding officer for conducting a meeting to elect new  sarpanch and deputy at Dramapur-Sirlim panchayat, could not make it to the venue as she had taken ill.

“I have explained to the director of panchayats in a letter about the entire incident at the Dramapur-Sirlim panchayat vis-à-vis the elections and requested the director to fix the election date again,’’ he said, adding there is no political interference as claimed by  few  panchas and villagers.

They had also blamed the government officials for sabotaging the election process.

Interestingly, sources informed that the director of panchayats,  Narayan Sawant is on leave and that the charge has been given to  director of municipal administration, Elvis Gomes.

Sources said  that Gomes may not fix the fresh date and instead would wait for Sawant to resume his duties.

It may be recalled that panch Agostinho D’Costa had blamed the Parrikar-led government,  alleging that it was a manmade sickness to the presiding officer, who was deputed for the duty.

The panchas had opined that the “BDO should have made the necessary arrangement to sent a replacement for the presiding officer to conduct the meeting to elect the sarpanch and deputy sarpanch.”

Olasrico Rodrigues and Edcy Fernandes have been ousted from the posts of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch through a no confidence motion on August 27. The panchayat has seven members.
