Panchayats in Salcete have raised concerns over the demarcation of village boundaries in the Regional Plan 2021.
Discussions on the RP have not only dominated recent gram sabha meetings, but villagers are disappointed with the government’s highhanded approach in reopening the RP.
They feel that the government has given less time to cross check objections and wonder if all 3,500-odd objections have been incorporated.Panchayat members from the 30-odd panchayats in Salcete pointed out that committees formed on the RP are hopeful that the suggestions submitted have been incorporated.
What worries the panchayats is the demarcation and size of the roads on the village plans stand to affect them if all the corrections are not incorporated.
For instance, the major district roads have been vehemently objected to in some panchayats and villagers hope that the objections have been accepted by the Town and Country Planning department about the same roads passing through adjoining villages.Further, Salcete panchayats point out that the RP has raised discrepancies in villages like Navelim and Dramapur regarding the boundary.
Other panchayats point out that this could lead to administrative issues for areas that are not clearly demarcated in the RP and this could lead to complications for residents living at these village borders in the future. The Goa Panchayati Raj Union and Salcete Panchayat Forum have conveyed their concerns to the government.
