Fearing slowdown in farming activities, members of the Sancoale gram sabha on Sunday unanimously resolved to oppose demarcation of some forest areas as ‘Reserve Forest Zones’.
In order to protect the mountains and hilly terrains all over the state, the government has plans to set up such zones.
Members of the gram sabha, which was chaired by the Sancoale sarpanch, Mr Ramakant Borkar, felt that it would be quite difficult to identify such areas as many landlords have settled out of the state.
During the gram sabha, issues pertaining to pre-monsoon works were also taken up for discussion. It was decided that repairs of roads, cleaning of gutters and nullahs besides cleaning of wells in the Sancoale village panchayat jurisdiction will be taken up before onset of monsoon.
Though most of the gram sabhas in the state have voiced objections to the mega projects in their jurisdictions, the Sancoale gram sabha on Sunday unanimously decided to issue permissions to mega projects provided they adhere to legal procedures. Though a member, Mr Seby Fernandes raised objection to allowing mega projects, he was not backed by anyone.
Mr Raya Borkar has sought the report of the alleged seepage of the petroleum products from the tanks belonging to the Zuari Indian Oiltanking Ltd some couple of years back. He informed that the report has not yet been furnished to the villagers by the authorities and the village panchayat of Sancoale should take up the case.
The gram sabha members unanimously approved the annual budget of ` 3 crore for the year 2013-14 which was placed by the sarpanch, Mr Borkar. Earlier, the gram sabha members conformed the minutes of the previous meeting and also passed the audit report for the year 2012-13.
Interestingly, none of the gram sabha members raised any issue pertaining to the retaining of Dabolim airport though other panchayat bodies in Cortalim constituency besides priests, citizens at large and social organisations have come forward to oppose the plans of the state government to set up an airport at Mopa in North Goa.
