Sancoale panchayat has sought sanction from the director of panchayats to purchase 2,000 square metres of land, located behind the panchayat building, through their own funds.
Speaking to this daily, sarpanch Girish Pillai said that a full-fledged panchayat ghar is the need of the hour. “The erstwhile panchayat bodies had taken initiatives to build a panchayat ghar for the convenience of public, but their efforts did not bear fruits,” he said.
“Now, the panchayat has decided to purchase the land with its own funds. The project will cost around Rs 1 crore,” he said.
He disclosed that the panchayat has adopted a resolution to purchase the land and the proposal in this regard has been forwarded to the director of panchayats.
“The panchayat members have decided to meet the Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho and Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha to ensure speedy process of purchase of the land for the purpose of constructing the panchayat ghar,” said Pillai.
He expressed confidence of getting all support from the government to have the long-pending demand for a panchayat ghar fulfilled.
