Sancoale panchayat has resolved to revoke construction licences issued to all proposed mega projects in the village during the tenure of previous panchayat body. A unanimous resolution in this regard was taken during a monthly meeting of the panchayat body a few days back.
This decision was taken in view of rampant construction activities in the area, which is taking a toll on power, water infrastructure. It has been pointed out that the residents have been facing power, water problems due to extra load of the mega projects.
“We want to protect our village. In the past, permissions had been granted to several mega projects. This will put a burden on the existing infrastructure in the village. Hence, we have passed a resolution wherein we will ask Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha as well as Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA) and Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai to review all multi-dwelling or mega projects proposed in the panchayat jurisdiction and revoke licences issued,” said Sancoale sarpanch Girish Pillai.
He said the panchayat is struggling to tackle garbage problem in absence of a garbage treatment plant.
Deputy sarpanch Nandini Dessai said that several mega projects are proposed in the area behind the MES College and all such projects, if completed, will wipe out the green cover.
