Residents of Benaulim, Orlim and Varca have expressed anger over the sudden installation of over 20 speed-breakers, some of which are high, in their villages. While maintaining that safety is required, they have questioned the need to have so many “back-to-back” speed-breakers on a straight road.
They feel this is counter-productive as speed-breakers were supposed to ensure safety. An Orlim resident claimed that a drive from Orlim to Benaulim via Mungul would mean passing over 22 speed-breakers.The speed-breakers in front of the Varca Church have annoyed the residents due to their height and positioning.
The locals feel that vehicles, especially two-wheelers, could meet with accidents at night.Sources stated that the contractor had informed complainants that the speed-breakers were made as per the specifications of the PWD.
However, residents have pointed out that speed-breakers at several places were smaller and there weren’t so many speed-breakers next to each other.”It’s the road from Orlim to Benaulim via the Don Bosco- Patrocin chapel, leading up to Mungul.
The numbers of speed-breakers, especially on the straight road, are ridiculous. If they have the budget, they should fix all the roads first,” said a resident.
