In a relief to the residents of Querim village dependent on tanker water, the PWD on Sunday commissioned a newly-laid pipeline connected to the Opa-Panaji main line and also laid the foundation stone for the construction of two 800 cubic metre tanks at Bhootkhamb-Querim. Two MLD water was released to the village to commission the pipeline.
The foundation stone of the Rs 4.22-cr worth project was laid by the PWD Minister Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar in the presence of Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude and other dignitaries.
Firstly 2 MLD water will be released to the village from the 300 mm diameter pipeline connected to Opa-Panaji main line and it will immediately benefit around 3,500 residents of Querim, informed Dhavalikar while addressing the gathering. After construction of the water tanks, issues of surrounding areas of Volvoi, Verem and Savoi-Verem will be resolved, assured Dhavalikar.
Dhavalikar further said that the project work was started in 2014, but due to issue of land acquisition, it got delayed. PWD had first decided to provide water to villages through 27 MLD plant proposed at Ganjem-Usgao but it got delayed. PWD then made arrangement for 2 MLD water from the Opa-Panaji main line.
After completion of the 27 MLD plant at Ganjem-Usgao and Opa, surplus water will be supplied to entire Ponda taluka and the plant will be commissioned soon, claimed Dhavalikar. Art and Culture Minister and local MLA Govind Gaude expressed happiness over the commissioning of the water pipeline. He also assured to fulfill all the assurances made during the election and sought support of all.
